全球互联网用户人数超过15亿
就在本月，全球互联网用户人数迈上了一个历史性的新台阶。全球互联网用户人数超过了15亿，超过现在全球人口总数67亿的22%。而据CNNIC2008年7月数据，中国的互联网普及率接近但低于20%。全球互联网用户人数跨过1亿大关的时间是2005年12月。这三年间新增的网民人数是5000万。根据预测，2010年网民将超过20亿。而WSIS（World Summit on the Information Society）所预期的目标是，到2015年，人类一半都是网民。
不过，如果联想到现在人类已经拥有近40亿部手机，如果这些手机能够渐渐成为联网的终端，那么WSIS提出的目标似乎就不那么遥远了。网众时代，业已来临。
上述数据来自AMD的一个项目“50×15”的网站。该项目致力于消弭数字鸿沟，“50×15”的意思就是，促成2015年全球人口50%可以获得互联网连接与计算能力（the 50×15 mission is to enable affordable, accessible Internet connectivity and computing capabilities for 50 percent of the world’s population by the year 2015）。
